The No. 12-ranked Washington men's tennis team (20-4), behind Alex Slovic's clinching 3-set singles win, held off upset-minded No. 21 USC (12-13), 4-3, in a second round match of the 2005 NCAA Men's Division I Tennis Team Championships at the University of Washington's Bill Quillan Stadium on Saturday (May 14).

Washington advances to the Round of 16 at Texas A&M May 21-24, while the Trojans' season has concluded. The Huskies will face the winner of Sunday's (May 15) match in Knoxville between No. 14 Tennessee and No. 26 Ohio State.

Washington took the doubles point as Alex Vlaski and Chistoph Palmanshofer upset USC's No. 52-ranked team of Drew Hoskins and Adam Loucks, 8-2, on court 2 and then the No. 18-ranked team of Daniel Chu and Alex Slovic beat No. 35 Jamil Al-Agba and Johan Berg, 8-3, on court 1. Once those courts had finished play, play on the No. 3 court was suspended.

In singles, No. 44 Slovic was extended by No. 93 Berg, 6-7, 6-2, 7-5, on court 3 in the clincher.

USC won the first two singles matches, as Brian Wright beat Chris Floyd, 6-1, 6-1, on court 5 and Loucks defeated Andy Kuharszky, 6-1, 6-2, on court 6. After No. 65 Palmanshofer upset No. 55 Hoskins, 6-4, 6-3, on court 2, Kaes Van't Hof put USC back in the lead with a 6-3, 7-6 win over Chu. But then No. 6 Vlaski was stretched to the limit by No. 19 Al-Agba before winning, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5, on court 1, setting up the dramatics on the third court.
