Men's Tennis Sweeps Brigham Young

Los Angeles, CA -- The 11th-ranked USC men's tennis team defeated Brigham Young, 7-0, today (Jan. 26) at Marks Stadium. With the win, the Trojans improve to 2-0 this season.

Troy swept the Cougars with ease in the No. 1, 3, 5 and 6 singles matches. At No. 2 singles, sophomores Andrew Park of USC and Gert Vilms of BYU battled through a tie-breaker in the third set. Park earned the win, 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (8-6). USC's Nicholas Rainey and Cougar Nic Losee played to three, as Rainey went on to capture the come-from-behind victory, 1-6, 7-6, 6-4.

USC posted three convincing victories to earn the doubles point in the match. Seventh-ranked Rainey and Ryan Moore teamed for a 8-4 win over Damien Ward and Vilms at the No. 1 spot. Trojans' Patrick Gottesleben and Daniel Langre defeated Carlos Lozano and Losee, 8-4, at No. 2, while Park and Parker Collins earned a 8-2 win over Jeff Olson and David White.

The Trojans will return to their home court on Friday, January 28 against Arizona State for the first Pac-10 match of the season. The match will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Marks Tennis Stadium.
