LOS ANGELES, CALIF. -- Members of the USC men's tennis team are showing their strength at the next level in competition at a USTA Pro Circuit Futures event being held at USC's Marks Stadium this week. Action continues tomorrow (Jan. 7) with the remainder of second-round singles taking place, highlighted by 10 a.m. matches for Trojan seniors Yannick Hanfmann and Jonny Wang.

In doubles action, USC seniors Yannick Hanfmann and Roberto Quiroz delivered a 6-4, 6-0 first-round victory over a familiar pairing of USC's Nick Crystal and Thibault Forget. Hanfmann and Quiroz have hence earned themselves a spot in tomorrow's quarterfinal round against top-seeded James Cluskey and Frederik Nielson in a match to take place not before 3 p.m.

In singles play, USC senior Eric Johnson pinned up a big opening win with a 6-4, 7-5 takedown of Tom Fawcett. That punches the current Trojan's ticket into the second round, where he could face former Trojans Daniel Nguyen. No. 2 seeded Nguyen won four NCAA Team Championships during his time at Troy, and he will play his first-round match against Nathan Ponwith tomorrow not before 1 p.m.

First-round singles tilts also await USC seniors Yannick Hanfmann, Roberto Quiroz and Jonny Wang. At 10 a.m. tomorrow, Hanfmann will square off against Mackie McDonald, while Quiroz takes on No. 4 seed Frederik Nielsen. Wang's match will start up not before 1 p.m., with the Trojan facing Adrien Puget.
