Glenn Michibata begins his second season assisting the men's team in 2000 after previously serving as an assistant coach for the USC women's tennis team in 1998.
Prior to Michibata's arrival at USC, he had a successful 11-year (1983-93) professional career. He was ranked as high as No. 4 in the world in doubles and No. 48 in the world in singles. In doubles play at Grand Slam tournaments, he reached the finals of the 1990 Australian Open, the semifinals of the 1991 French Open and the semifinals at Wimbledon in 1991.
Michibata has also enjoyed an outstanding Davis Cup career which spanned 14 years. From 1979-1993, he played for the Canadian Davis Cup team.
Following his playing career, Michibata worked as a traveling coach on the professional tour for three years (1995-97). He served as the tennis director at the Whistler Racquet and Golf Resort in British Columbia from 1994-95.
Michibata attended Pepperdine and was a doubles partner with USC women's head coach Richard Gallien. Michibata lettered four years (1980-83) and earned three-time All-American honors.
Born in Toronto, Canada, he spent his final two years of high school at University High in Irvine, Calif. The 37-year-old Michibata is married to his wife, Angie. They have a 5-year-old daughter, Cori, and a newborn son, Matthew.
