    Quintero Posts 4 Top 20 Finishes At Short Course World Championships

    Senior Cristian Quintero posted four top 20 finishes at the 2014 Short Course World Championships while recent USC great Katinka Hosszu completed a dominant meet the with four world-record swims and fellow former Trojan Ous Mellouli also won a silver medal during a fruitful week in Doha, Qatar.

    Quintero was a finalist in the 200m free and just missed two semifinal spots. He qualified for the 200m free final with the second-fastest time in prelims with a 1:42.40 before finishing eighth in the final in 1:43.45.

    Quintero just missed earning a second swim in the 50m free with a 21.65, good for 18th overall and .03 back of 16th, 0.40 behind eighth. He also finished 12th in the 400m free in 3:41.67, 1.16 out of eighth, and 19th in the 100m free in 47.92, missing a semifinal berth by 0.11.

    Hosszu won golds in the 100m back (55.03), 200m back (1:59.23), 100m IM (56.70) and 200m IM (2:01.86), all in world-record breaking performances. She also won silver medals in the 200m free, 400m IM and 200m fly and a bronze medal in the 50m back.

    Mellouli won his silver in the 1500m free, the event he won at the 2008 Olympics. He was the fastest in prelims in 14:36.46. In the final, he finished in 14:18.79, behind Italy's Gregorio Paltrinieri (14:16.10). He was also fourth in the 400m free (3:39.05) and 21st in the 200m free (1:44.24).
