    Trojans To Race In U.S. Short Course Nationals

    The USC men's and women's swimming teams will join some of the top talent in the country when they swim this week at the 2009 AT&T Short Course National Championships, Thursday through Saturday (Dec. 3-5), at the Weyerhaueser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.

    Former Trojan and Olympic and World Championships gold medalist Rebecca Soni is among a host of 2008 U.S. Olympians competing. The meet will follow the traditional schedule of morning prelims and evening finals with the morning sessions starting each day at 9 a.m. Evening finals begin at 5 p.m. Five to seven events will be contested daily.

    Footage from the meet will air nationally on NBC on Dec. 12 from 2 - 3 p.m. ET. All three days of prelims and finals will also be available for viewing on-demand at swimnetwork.com.

    USC's women's team is led by sophomore Katinka Hosszu, a 2009 World Championship gold and silver medalist as well as a three-time finalist at the 2009 NCAA Championships. Sophomore diver Victoria Ishimatsu is another returning All-American while seniors Dina Hegazy and Krissy Forelli, junior Ellie Doran and sophomore Tanya Krisman are returning NCAA Championships participants.

    On the men's side, USC will be led by senior co-captain James Martin and senior Zoltan Povazsay, both 2009 NCAA Championships participants while sophomore diver Harrison Jones is a returning All-American. Juniors Dillon Connolly and diver Steven Starks and sophomores Josh Joiner and Patrick White are also returning NCAA Championships participants for the Trojans.

     

     

    Hosszu leads USC with a variety of NCAA `B' cuts. Her cuts in yards include 2:01.45 in the 200y IM, 1:48.80 in the 200y free, 1:56.48 in the 200y fly and 2:16.52 in the 200y breast. She also has a 2:03.30 in the 200m free, a 2:18.85 in the 200m IM and a 1:01.97 in the 100m fly (all long course) and a short course 200m free (2:01.85).

    Junior Lyndsay DePaul, a transfer from UC Irvine who has quickly become one of USC's most valuable swimmers, has `B' cuts in yards in the 200y free (1:47.86), 200y IM (2:01.28), 4:17.29 in the 400y IM and 1:57.49 in the 200y fly. She also has an NCAA consideration cut in the 200 IM (2:20.12, lcm).

    Other women's swimmers with NCAA `B' cuts in yards include freshman Haley Anderson in the 500y free (4:48.77) and the 1650y free (16:26.06), freshman Yumi So in the 100y fly (54.26) and the 200y fly (2:00.56), sophomore Tanya Krisman in the 200y fly (1:58.96) and freshman Jessica Schmitt in the 100y breast (1:02.95).

    For the men, freshman Clement Lefert, a 2008 French Olympian who has made an immediate impact on the Trojans, has two NCAA `B' cuts in the 200y free (1:37.72) and the 500y free (4:28.29) while senior Zoltan Povazsay has one in the 200 free (1:37.64).
