Swim, Dive Teams Kick Off Season With Intrasquad
Sept. 13, 2012
The USC men's and women's swimming and diving team, featuring 2012 Olympic medalists Haley Anderson, Vladimir Morozov and Dimitri Colupaev as well as a host of returning All-Americans and Pac-12 finalists, kick off the 2012-13 season with the annual intrasquad exhibition Friday (Sept. 14) at McDonald's Swim Stadium at 1:30 p.m.
The women's team, whose third place finish last year was its second in a row, returns eight of its 12 All-Americans from last year, led by Anderson. Anderson, a senior, won her first NCAA title last year in the 500y free. She won silver at the 2012 Olympics in the Marathon 10K open water. Other All-Americans returning are seniors Yumi So, Christel Simms and Lindsay Parrish, juniors Kasey Carlson, Stina Gardell, Meghan Hawthorne and Lynette Lim. Senior Jessica Schmitt also returns as an NCAA individual point scorer last year.
Among the new additions are sophomore diving transfer Haley Ishimatsu, the younger sister of Trojan great and former NCAA champion Victoria Ishimatsu, sophomore transfer Andrea Kropp, a 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials finalist, and freshman Jasmine Tosky, also an Olympic Trials finalist.
The men's team, who finished seventh at the NCAA Championships for the second year in a row, returns five of six All-Americans from last year, including Morozov, a junior who won a bronze medal for Russia at the 2012 Olympics in the 400m free relay. Morozov, USC's fastest sprinter ever, has put together back-to-back four-time All-American campaigns. Other All-Americans coming back are senior Alex Lendrum, juniors Dimitri Colupaev and Jack Wagner and sophomore Cristian Quintero. Sophomore Chad Bobrosky returns as an NCAA individual point scorer last year.
