Malone Wins Gold, Bronze On Same Day At World University Games|
July 6, 2015
Rising junior Reed Malone won gold in the 200-meter freestyle and bronze in the 400-meter free for the United States in a challenging and unique double on Monday (July 6) at the World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea.
Malone, who anchored USC’s 800y free relay NCAA title in March while also finishing third in the 500y free, won the 200m for America in 1:47.15 to put him in the top 15 in the world this year.
He returned less than an hour late to swim in the 400m free final and, despite swimming in last at the halfway mark, had enough to capture bronze with a 3:50.13.
Fellow rising junior Chelsea Chenault will swim in the 200m free on Wednesday (July 8). Malone will also swim in the 800m free relay on Thursday while Chenault will swim in it Friday.
