Junior Vladimir Morozov broke his own school record in the 50y free with the second-fastest time in the nation this year, leading five Trojans who earned finals berths on the first day of prelims at the 2013 Men's Pac-12 Swimming and Diving Championships in Federal Way, Wash., on Monday (March 4).

Morozov, the defending champion in the 50y free, broke his two-year old school record of 19.06 set at the 2011 conference meet with an 18.92, 0.74 better than the next fastest qualifier, which happened to be junior teammate Jack Wagner. Wagner had never raced in the event in Pac-12s and made his first conference final with the lifetime best.

A win in tonight's final would make Morozov USC's first ever back-to-back Pac-12 winner in the 50y free. It would also mark the 17th straight season USC has won at least one individual title at the conference meet.

Sophomores Chad Bobrosky and Cristian Quintero - half of USC's title-winning 800y free relay from Sunday -- both qualified for their second straight final in the 500y free with strong morning swims. Bobrosky, fifth last year, qualified second in prelims with a 4:19.01, while Quintero, second in the race last year, was third in 4:19.53. Cal's Adam Hinshaw, sixth in the race last year, qualified first in 4:18.80.

Trojan junior Nick Johnson qualified for his first conference final by taking seventh in the 500y free prelims in 4:22.05, a P.R.

Sophomore Dakota Hodson (4:22.87), junior Dimitri Colupaev (4:23.09) and freshman Ted Singley (4:23.21) earned spots in the `B' final of the race. It was Colupaev's first time swimming the distance at the Pac-12s (and this season).

Senior Alex Lendrum just missed a spot in the final of the 200y IM, finishing ninth in 1:46.19, 0.06 out of eighth. Freshman Morten Klarskov finished 10th in a season-best 1:46.30 to also earn a spot in the `B' final while junior Sean Mulroy (1:46.82) and sophomore Luca Spinazzola (1:49.13) will swim in the `C' final.

Freshman Maclin Davis earned a spot in the 50y free `B' final with a season best 20.05 (NCAA `B' cut).

    Finals begin at 6 p.m.

    * The diving portion of the competition was combined with the women's diving, Feb. 28-March 2, and scores from diving will be added to the overall team scores at the end of each day
