    Quintero, Lendrum Post Top 3 Finishes At Winter Nationals

    Freshman Jasmine Tosky won a title in the 200y fly while seniors Haley Anderson, Jessica Schmitt and Alex Lendrum and sophomores Andrea Kropp and Cristian Quintero also posted top three finishes as USC capped a fantastic three days of the 2012 AT&T Winter Nationals in Austin, Texas, on Saturday (Dec. 1).

    USC's women finished first in overall team scoring (422.5), edging Arizona by 3.5 points, while the Trojan men's squad was third (299). Tosky won the 200y fly in 1:54.38, 0.22 under the NCAA `A' cut standard and 1.56 seconds ahead of second place Kim Vandenberg. Freshman teammate Kendyl Stewart was fifth in the race in 1:57.47, the first of two final appearances for her.

    Anderson finished second in the 1650y free in 15:55.91, an NCAA `A' cut, though well behind Olympic teenage champion Katie Ledecky (15:28.36). Quintero took third in the men's race in 15:00.79, leading four Trojans in the top 9. Freshman Ted Singley was fifth (15:12.41), sophomore Cary Wright was sixth (15:12.47) and junior Nick Johnson was ninth (15:22.07). All four registered B cuts.

    Stewart posted another final appearance in the 200y back, finishing sixth in 1:55.20 while fellow freshman Henriette Stenkvist joined her in the heat, taking eighth (1:56.92). Both posted B cuts.

    Lendrum, an All-American in the 200y back in March, took third in the race Saturday in 1:42.29, a strong B cut. Junior Chase Bloch was the next highest finisher, taking 10th with a B cut of 1:43.45.

     

     

    Freshman Kasia Wilk topped USC's women in the 100y free in 13th at 49.35 after going 49.33 in prelim, a season best and a B cut. Senior Christel Simms took 16th, her 49.93 just under the B standard. Quintero led USC's men in the race in 15th. His prelim 43.85 was USC's first B cut in the event this season.

    Kropp, third at the 2012 Olympic Trials in the 200m breast, took second in the 200y breast in Austin with a 2:07.62, a strong A cut and among Troy's all-time best swims in the event.

    She led four top 6 finishers in the race as senior Jessica Schmitt (2:09.78) and juniors Kasey Carlson (2:11.57) and Meghan Hawthorne (2:11.98) finished 3-5-6, all with strong B cuts. Junior Stina Gardell, who won the 400y IM Friday, posted another B cut in 10th (2:11.89) while senior Jordan Danny (2:12.63) and Tosky (2:12.86) also nabbed B cuts in the consolation final.

    Freshman Morten Klarskov led USC's men in the 200y breast, finishing 10th in 1:57.42 while his prelim 1:57.22 was USC's top time of the season in the race, improving on his B cut. Freshman Ridge Altman also secured a B cut with a 1:58.95 in 15th.

    Trojan sophomore transfer Dakota Hodgson took sixth in the 200y fly in 1:45.62, though he went 1:45.49 in prelims, USC's top time of the year and a B cut. Senior Justin DiFederico was also in the final, taking eighth (1:47.96), though he went a season-best 1:45.64 in prelims. Wright took 12th with a B cut of 1:47.30 while Singley was 13th with a B cut of 1:47.34.

    USC's 400y free relay took third as Carlson, Wilk, Tosky and Simms finished in 3:16.29, a Trojan season best and a B cut. The men's relay was also third as junior Jack Wagner, Quintero, sophomore Chad Bobrosky and senior Nick Karpov finished in 2:54.80, a season-best B cut.
