    Trojans Down UC Santa Barbara In Pac-12 Tilt

    USC, which got a pair of distance freestyle wins from freshman Pawel Furtek, defeated host UC Santa Barbara, 152-107, in a Pac-12 dual meet on Saturday (Oct. 18).

    USC, which improved to 2-0 after a win at Cal Poly on Friday, opened the meet with a win in the 200y medley relay as juniors Luca Spinazzola and Morten Klarskov and sophomores Dylan Carter and Santo Condorelli won in 1:30.04.

    Furtek, a Polish distance specialist, next won the 1000y free in 9:12.25, which would have made him third fastest on the team last year. Junior Ted Singley was second (9:23.04).

    Sophomore Reed Malone took the 200y free in 1:40.10 while sophomore Michael Domagala was third (1:41.30). Senior Cary Wright (49.61) and Spinazzola (50.05) then went 1-2 in the 100y back.

    Sophomore Steven Stumph won the 100y breast in 56.98 while freshman Jonah Hu was third (58.92). Carter (20.88) and junior Maclin Davis (21.25) went 1-2 in the 50y free and Condorelli won the 100y free (44.59).

    Estonian freshman Ralf Tribuntsov (1:49.18) and Canadian senior Chad Bobrosky (1:51.77) went 1-2 in the 200y back with frosh Jonathan Knox third (1:52.69).

    Klarskov took first in the 200y breast (2:01.83), Furtek came back to win the 500y free (4:32.62) with freshman Jason O'Brien second (4:38.84) and Wright touched first in the 400y IM in 4:02.67.

    USC closed the meet as sophomore David Morgan Jr., Condorelli, Carter and Tribuntsov touched the wall first in the 400y free relay in 3:00.86.
