Sophomore Cary Wright and junior Nick Johnson went 1-2 in the 1000y free to lead a split squad USC men's swimming team in an abbreviated six-event session at Utah on Friday (Feb. 22), a warm-up for a dual meet on Saturday.

USC opened the brief meet by taking the 400y medley relay as sophomore Luca Spinazzola, senior Blake Cushing and freshmen Maclin Davis and Fred Abramyan won in 3:16.55.

Wright (9:19.26) and Johnson (9:31.59) followed in the top two spots of the 1000y free with junior Sean Mulroy third (9:47.02).

What followed were three non-NCAA events as Davis won the 50y free (22.02), Cushing won the 50y breast (25.36) and Utah's Kristian Kron took the 50y back (23.16) with USC's Kevin Carroll second (23.92).

The evening finished with Utah's 200y free relay winning in 1:20.86.

USC, with most of its NCAA qualified swimmers back in L.A., will race against the Utes Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. PT.
