THIS SEASON: A talented and improving diver, 2000-2001 junior James Wells will look to continue his solid first two years and continue to be a factor at the Pac-10 level.
1999-2000: As a 1999-2000 sophomore, James Wells competed in three events at the 2000 Pacific-10 Conference Championships, taking eighth in the platform (306.50), ninth in the 3-meter springboard (382.20) and 11th in the 1-meter (320.60).
1998-99: Wells was named USC's Most Improved Diver after completing a fine freshman campaign in 1998-99. His year was highlighted by three finals appearances in the 1999 Pac-10 Championships, taking sixth in the 3-meter springboard (396.70), seventh in the platform (447.70) and eighth in the 1-meter (374.45).
HIGH SCHOOL: Wells prepped at Union High in Tulsa, Okla. He earned All-American consideration as a senior in 1998 and was All-Oklahoma State as a junior and senior. He was state champion in 1997 and the state runner-up in 1998. He was an Academic All-American in 1998.
PERSONAL: He was born on Feb. 27, 1980. He is majoring in electrical engineering. His aunt, Mary Nelson, competed for the USC diving team.
