THIS SEASON: Jay Sayko is a veteran backstroker for the Trojans as a 2002 senior and hopes to contribute as a point-scorer for the Trojans at the Pac-10 level.
2001: Sayko swam in the back and the free events for Troy as a 2001 junior … He was named to the Pac-10 All-Academic first team with a 3.38 GPA in communications.
2000: Sayko competed in the free and back events for the Trojans as a 2000 sophomore ... He earned 2000 Pac-10 All-Academic second team honors.
1999: Sayko was a key backstroker for USC as a 1999 freshman, registering the Trojans’ fourth-best time in both back events ... He also competed in five events at the 1998 U.S. Open.
HIGH SCHOOL: Sayko prepped at The Peddie School in Hightstown, N.J., where he was an eight-time All-American and a three-time Academic All-American ... He was a National Merit Commended Scholar and was on the Honor Roll four years ... He swam for Peddie Aquatics and was part of a Junior National Championship 800m free relay in 1996.
PERSONAL: He was born on Nov. 7, 1980 ... He is a communications major at USC ... He enjoys surfing, fishing and playing the guitar ... His father, Andrew, ran track at Providence and he had a sister and a brother who swam at James Madison and Texas, respectively.
