THIS SEASON: Matthew Peterson, a 2004 senior co-captain, will strive to continue to be a factor in the freestyle and IM events and will look to contribute at both the Pac-10 and NCAA Championships.
2003: Peterson was a Pac-10 point-scorer for the second consecutive season as a 2003 junior. He took 11th in the 400y IM (3:54.22) and 13th in the 500y free (4:29.56).
2002: Peterson, as a 2002 sophomore, debuted as a point-scorer at the 2002 Pac-10s, taking 13th in both the 400y IM (3:53.63) and the 1650y free (15:44.79) and 21st in the 500y free (4:31.16). His time in the 400y IM was an NCAA consideration time.
2001: As a 2001 freshman, Peterson competed in the medley, freestyle and fly events for the Trojans.
HIGH SCHOOL: Peterson was a nine-time prep All-American at Regis Jesuit High in Aurora, Col. … He won the Colorado state title in the 200y IM as a junior and a senior and won the 500y free as a senior ... He is also a two-time participant at the U.S. Junior Nationals.
PERSONAL: His birthday is Feb. 1, 1982 ... His father Thomas, swam at MIT.
