THIS SEASON: A fine distance freestyler, 2010 senior Evan Marcus provides good depth for the Trojans and should continue to be a solid point scorer at the conference level.
2009: After returning to the Trojans following a year away from the team, Marcus competed in three races at the 2009 Pac-10 Championships, taking 14th in the 1650y free (15:45.43), 17th in the 400y IM (4:13.47) and 24th in the 500y free (4:34.82).
2008: Marcus took a year off from school to train for the Olympics.
2007: As a 2007 sophomore, Marcus's season was highlighted by an eighth-place finish at the Pac-10s in the 1650y free (15:34.16). He was also 18th in the 400y IM (4:09.06) and was 20th in the 500y free (4:35.22).
2006: Marcus competed in all of the distance events at the 2006 Pac-10s as a freshman, swimming to 18th in the 1650y free (15:52.25), 19th in the 400y IM (4:12.33) and 20th in the 500y free (4:36.19) ... He also raced in three events at the 2006 U.S. Spring Nationals, highlighted by a 21st in the 800m free.
HIGH SCHOOL: Born in Guatemala, Marcus prepped at American Heritage School in Plantation, Fla., where he was an All-American in 2005 and an academic All-American in 2004 and 2005 ... He represented Guatemala at the 2005 FINA World Championships, taking 23rd in the 1500m free (15:56.20), 33rd in the 800m free (8:23.13), 39th in the 400m free (4:03.50) and 65th in the 200m free (1:56.96) ... He won a gold medal in the 1500m free at the 2005 Caribbean and Central American Championships in the Dominican Republic ... The MVP of his swim team, he was a district and region 1A title winner in the 500y free ... He was a High Honor student as a junior and senior and received various academic honors.
