THIS SEASON: A 2002 senior, Joel Everman is an ever-improving mid-to-distance freestyler who will be looking to build upon his NCAA Championship debut last year.
2001: Everman competed at the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive year as a 2001 junior, taking 19th in the 1650y free (15:12.81) and 21st in the 500y free (4:23.62) … Everman finalled twice at the 2001 Pacific-10 Conference Championships, taking fifth in the mile (15:09.99) and seventh in the 500y free (4:24.41). He was also 15th in the 200y free (1:39.84) ... At the 2001 U.S. Spring Nationals, he was 17th in the 800m free (8:22.11), 20th in the 400m free (4:02.93) and 29th in the 1500m free (16:01.83) … He earned 2001 Pac-10 All-Academic second team honors.
2000: As a 2000 sophomore, Everman made his debut at the NCAAs, competing in two events … He took 25th in the 1500m free (15:23.56, sc) and 40th in the 400m free (3:53.11, sc) … At the 2000 Pac-10s, Everman was seventh in the 1650y free (15:14.50) and 13th in the 500y free (4:24.92) ... He competed in two events at the 2000 U.S. Olympic Trials, finishing 22nd in the 1500m free (15:49.46) and 42nd in the 400m free (4:00.99) ... At the 2000 U.S. Spring Nationals, Everman was 22nd in the 400m free (4:00.71) and 26th in both the 800m free (8:22.32) and the 1500m free (15:59.25) ... At the 1999 U.S. Open, Everman was 29th in the 1500m free (16:19.84) and also competed in the 200m and 400m free ... He also was the co-recipient for the Coaches Recognition Award at the 2000 team banquet.
1999: Everman competed in three events at the 1999 Pac-10s, his highest finish coming with a 10th-place mark in the 1650y free (15:31.35) ... He also was 21st in the 500y free (4:30.73) and 27th in the 200y free (1:41.86) ... He competed at both the 1999 U.S. Spring and Summer Nationals and posted two Top 20 finishes at the former, taking 18th in the 800m free (8:24.81) and 19th in the 1500m free (16:06.04) ... Everman also took 19th in the 1500m free (15:53.69, SC) at the 1998 U.S. Open.
HIGH SCHOOL: Everman prepped at Notre Dame High in Sherman Oaks, Calif. … He was a six-time All-American and won three CIF Southern Section Division II titles (500y free twice and 200y free) ... He was an eight-time Mission League champ as well as a two-time All-Mission League selection and team MVP in water polo ... He was a Scholastic All-American four years and was a member of the California Scholastic Federation.
PERSONAL: He was born March 5, 1980 ... He is a business administration major. … He lists his sports hero as quarterback Kurt Warner and teammate Mark Warkentin as the toughest person he has competed against.
