THIS SEASON: Nick Degenstein, a 2003 senior, is a versatile swimmer and one of the team’s hardest workers who will look to continue his role as a point-scorer at the Pac-10 level, if not beyond.
2002: Degenstein swam in three events at the 2002 Pac-10s, taking 19th in the 200y fly (1:51.28), 21st in the 100y fly (50.20) and 22nd in the 200y IM (1:54.09) … He earned 2002 Pac-10 All-Academic first team honors for the second year in a row with a 3.82 GPA in chemical engineering.
2001: Degenstein competed in mainly in the breast and medley events for the Trojans as a 2001 sophomore … At the 2001 U.S. Spring Nationals, he was 21st in the 100m fly (56.50) … He earned 2001 Pac-10 All-Academic first team honors with a 3.81 GPA in chemical engineering.
2000: Degenstein competed in three events as a 2000 freshman at the 2000 Pac-10s. … He reached the consolation finals of the 200y breast (14th, 2:03.79) and the 100y breast (16th, 57.29). He also took 21st in the 200y IM (1:52.27). Degenstein’s top time in the 100y breast (56.73) was third best on the squad freshman year and his 2:03.66 in the 200y breast was the fourth best.
HIGH SCHOOL: Degenstein prepped at The Woodlands (Texas) High, where he earned All-American honors in the 100y breast and 200y IM his junior and senior years. … He was the Texas state champion in the 200y IM (1:51.75) and 100y breast (57.1) as a senior. … Degenstein was a member of the National High School Public record-setting 200y medley relay team. … He also captained his Woodlands club team in 1999 and qualified for junior nationals in the 200m IM, 100m and 200m breast, 100m back and 100m fly.
