THIS SEASON: A 2002 senior co-captain, Joe Curreri is a solid medley and backstroke contributor who will look to continue to improve and score at the Pac-10 level.

2001: Curreri, as 2001 junior, was among USC’s top medley swimmers and also competed in the backstroke … At the 2001 U.S. Spring Nationals, he was 28th in the 200m fly (2:04.68) … For the second consecutive season, he was a Pac-10 All-Academic second team selection and earned the Josh Ilika Spirit Award at the 2001 team banquet.

2000: Curreri, as a 2000 sophomore, reached the consolation finals in two events at the 2000 Pacific-10 Conference Championships, taking 12th in both the 400y IM (3:55.15) and in the 200y back (1:49.25). He also placed 17th in the 200y IM (1:50.71). His 400y IM time of 3:55.15 was good enough for NCAA consideration. Curreri competed in one event at the 2000 U.S. Olympic Trials, finishing 60th in the 400m IM (4:41.69). He was a 2000 Pac-10 All-Academic second team selection and at the 2000 team banquet, he earned the Josh Ilika Spirit Award.

1999: Curreri competed in three events at the 1999 Pac-10s, highlighted by an eighth-place finish in the 200y back (1:47.90). He also took 11th in the 400y IM (3:55.87) and 20th in the 500y free (4:30.11). His prelim time in the 200y back (1:47.89) was the Trojans’ third-best time in the event of the year. He competed at both the 1999 U.S. Spring and Summer Nationals, his efforts highlighted by his participation in USC’s national title in the 800m free relay at the spring meet. His best individual mark was a 26th-place mark in the 200m back (2:08.15) at the same meet.

HIGH SCHOOL: Curreri prepped at Loyola High in Towson, Md. … He posted a fourth-place mark in the 200m IM at the 1998 Summer Junior Southeast meet as well as in the 1000y free at the 1996 Spring Juniors East. … He was the Baltimore Sun Athlete of the Week as a freshman and captain of his prep team as a senior. … Curreri was a three-time Scholastic All-American and a National Catholic Champion.

PERSONAL: He was born on Sept. 23, 1980. He is a history major.
