THIS SEASON: Senior Dimitri Colupaev, a German national teamer and Olympian, is a 10-time career All-American with one NCAA relay title, two Pac-12 titles and three Pac-12 relay titles to his credit. He is one of the NCAA's top swimmers in the 200y free whose 100y free is good enough for All-American status as well. He is also strong in the 500y free and 200y IM and is a lynchpin on relays. He is USC's record holder in the 200y free (1:32.74) and the 200y IM (1:44.10), is tied for second-fastest in the 100y free (42.80), and is part of three freestyle relay records.
2013: Colupaev, as a 2013 junior, turned in another big year for the Trojans, highlighted by helping USC win its first NCAA 400y free relay title since 1977 with a school record 2:48.33. Colupaev also vied for an individual title in the 200y free at the 2013 NCAA Championships before taking second for the second year in a row, lowering his record for the second straight year as well (1:32.74). He also helped USC to second-place in the 200y free relay and third in the 800y free relay (all three relays he was on set school records). He scored for the second time in a row in the 100y free, winning the consolation final with a 42.80. He was also 35th in the 500y free (4:21.36) ... At the 2013 Pac-12s, Colupaev helped USC sweep the 200y, 400y and 800y free relay titles, anchoring the 200 and 800 and swimming the second leg in the 400. He was eyeing his third straight 200y free conference crown, but was beaten by teammate Cristian Quintero and finished second in 1:34.44. He was also fourth in the 100y free (43.26) and took ninth in the 500y free (4:20.24) ... At the 2013 World Championships, he anchored Germany's sixth-place 400m free relay and swam third on their sixth-place 800m free relay. He was also 19th in the 200m free (1:48.50) and anchored Germany's prelim 400m free relay unit that qualified for the final.
2012: Colupaev was a three-time All-American as a 2012 sophomore, finishing second at the NCAAs with a school-record-setting swim in the 200y free (1:32.91) while helping USC to sixth and fourth, respectively, in the 200y and 400y free relays. In the 200y free, he led after 150 yards but was beaten by Texas' Dax Hill by 0.40. He was also part of an 800y free relay squad headed for a top 4 finish before it was disqualified for a lane line infraction. Colupaev was also 12th in the 100y free (43.17), took 22nd in the 200y IM and swam on USC's 12th-place 200y medley relay ... At the 2012 Pac-12 Championships, Colupaev repeated as conference champion in the 200y free, winning in 1:34.20. He was also fifth in the 100y free (43.37) and helped USC to second-place in the 200y, 400y and 800y free relays ... He represented Germany at the 2012 Olympics and helped the 800m free relay to fourth place ... At the 2012 European Championships, Colupaev helped German to gold in the 800m free relay and silver in the 400m medley relay and was 14th in the 200m free. He also earned a spot to represent Germany at the 2013 World Championships.
2011: Colupaev was a three-time All-American as a 2011 freshman, finishing sixth in the 200y free (1:33.47) at the NCAA Championships and helping Troy to third in both the 400y and 800y free relays. The 400y free relay set a school record (2:50.32). He just missed earning a second swim in the 100y free, finishing 17th (43.10) and was 29th in the 200y IM (1:45.89) ... At the 2011 Pac-10 Championships, He won a title in the 200y free at the 2011 Pac-10s, winning the race in 1:34.05 in a wire-to-wire effort. He was also 10th in the 200y IM (1:46.35) and 11th in the 100y free (43.72).
HIGH SCHOOL: Colupaev, who prepped in his native Germany, competed at the 2009 European Short Course Championships, where he was a 100m and 200m free finalist and competed in the 200m IM and the 200m free relay ... He won the 200m IM at the 2008 Junior World Championships and helped Germany to second in the 800y free relay ... Was second in the 200m IM at the 2008 German Nationals and 2008 Olympic Trials as well as at the 2008 and 2009 German Short Course Nationals.
