Freshman Sean Crocker made his collegiate debut a memorable one, turning in a 36-hole 2-under 140 (68-72) to lead the co-hosting USC men's golf team to third place after two-rounds of the season-opening Southwestern Intercollegiate at the North Ranch C.C. in Westlake Village, Calif., on Monday (Sept. 8).

The Trojans, coming off their eighth consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships final last year, combined for a two-round 8-over 580 (288-292) for third, eight back of first-place Stanford (572) and two behind Washington State (578). San Diego State is fourth (583) and co-host Pepperdine is fifth (586).

Crocker, a Westlake Village resident originally from Zimbabwe, is tied for fourth with a round to go, two back of a three-way tie for first. His first round included seven birdies as he was 1-under going out and 2-under going in. He began the second round at 3-over through 8, but finished the final 10 holes at 2-under.

Another Trojan freshman, Jonah Texeira, also began his career solidly, joining Hoey in 20th at 5-over 147 (74-73). He was 3-over on his front but even on his back to open the day. He was 3-over again through 9 in the second-round, but birdied 10 through 13 en route to a 1-under back 9 to close the night.
