Crocker Rockets To U.S. Amateur Semifinals

    Aug. 21, 2015

Trojan sophomore Sean Crocker continued to show his mettle at the U.S. Amateur, erasing a two-hole deficit in the quarterfinals for a 2up win on Friday (Aug. 21) to advance to the semifinals at the Olympia Fields (Ill.) C.C.

Crocker, who defeated Alabama junior Robby Shelton on the second playoff hole in the round of 16 on Thursday, trailed Austin James of Canada by two holes after the third hole and at the turn. A birdie on 10 and a par on 12 evened the match, however.

A tap-in par on 16 was good enough to win the hole and take a one-hole lead. He just missed a birdie on 17 to win, but sunk a 35-footer on 18 for the win.

Crocker, an All-American as a 2015 freshman and the 2015 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, will face 2015 NCAA individual champion Bryson DeChambeau Saturday beginning at 6:20 a.m. PT. Kenta Konishi of Japan and Derek Bard from New Hartford, N.Y., square off in the other semifinal at 6 a.m. PT.

Coverage on Fox is set for 12-3 p.m. PT.
