    Freshman Yi Keun Chang fired a 1-under 70 while sophomore Anthony Paolucci carded par to lead USC during the first round of the Gifford Collegiate-CordeValle in San Martin, Calif., on Monday (Nov. 5).

    In the event in which six golfers play and the top five scorers count, USC finished the first day in eighth at a combined 11-over 366, 16 back of first-place UCLA (350) and 13 behind second-place Stanford (353).]

    Chang is tied for ninth with his 70. He had five birdies on the day, including three over a five-hole stretch on the back 9 of his round.

    Paolucci is tied for 13th at par. Starting on the 10th hole with the rest of the team, he bogeyed 13 and 15 before evening the round with birdies on 16 and 17. He carded pars over his final 10 holes.

    Junior Jeffrey Kang is tied for 36th at 3-over 74. He was 1-under with four holes to go before a pair of late doubles dropped him down the leader board.

    Senior Stewart Hagestad is tied for 42nd at 4-over 75 while senior Sam Smith and junior Ramsey Sahyoun are tied for 52 at 5-over 76. Sahyoun eagled the par 5 18th hole in his round.
