Hoey Leads USC To 2nd After 36 Holes At Itani Quality Homes Collegiate|

Sophomore Rico Hoey combined for a 9-under 131 to earn a tie for first while helping the men's golf team to second place overall after 36 holes of the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate at the Paolouse Ridge in Pullman, Wash., on Monday (Sept. 29).
The Trojans combined for a two-round 17-under 543 (273-270), two back of first-place Oregon (541), one better than host Washington State (544) and seven better than California and Arizona State (550).
Hoey carded rounds of 66 and 65 to earn a share of the first with Oregon's Aaron Wise. Hoey combined for 10 birdies against one bogey in an almost flawless two rounds.
Junior Bobby Gojuangco (69-67) and freshman Jonah Texeira (67-69) are tied for ninth at 4-under 136. Gojuangco posted four birdies in his first round against three bogeys and four against one bogey in the second. Texeira used five birdies en route to a 3-under first round and had three more birdies in the second.
Senior Paul Smith, playing individually, is tied for 26th at 1-under 139 (67-72). His older brother, Sam Smith, owned the course record (63) until today when it was lowered to 62 by Utah's Jonathon Thomas.
Sophomore Danny Ochoa, also playing individually, is tied for 68th at 6-over 146.
Action concludes Tuesday with a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m.
