The No. 23 USC men's golf team got off to a slow start - but just a start - to the 2014 NCAA Championships at Prairie Dunes C.C. in Hutchinson, Kan., Friday (May 23), as thunderstorms levied most of the day's action and prevented the Trojans from a chance at generating some momentum.

USC players were between the 7th and 10th holes when play was halted for a final time by rain, which came after a morning delay to the start and another near six-hour delay. In all, play was stopped more than eight hours before the action was officially suspended.

Play is scheduled to resume at 5 a.m. PT on Saturday morning.

The Trojans, who started the day on 10, are a combined 11-over, in 15th among the morning wave of teams that played.

Freshman Rico Hoey was USC's lone player in the red thanks to a pair of birdies on 13 and 14 and will begin tomorrow's action at 2-under.

Junior Paul Smith had just made the turn at 3-over when play stopped. Junior Eric Sugimoto was 4-over through 17 while junior Anthony Paolucci was 6-over through 16. Senior Jeffrey Kang is 7-over.
