    No. 11 USC In 10th After Pac-12 Championships Opener

    Senior Stewart Hagestad and junior Anthony Paolucci tied for 20th while the No. 11 USC men's golf team is in 10th after a difficult 36-hole opening day of the 2013 Pac-12 Championships at the L.A. C.C. on Monday (April 29).

    Top-ranked Cal held the lead the entire day and will begin the third round in first after a 5-under 695 (338-357) to open play. UCLA is second at 4-over 704 while Washington is third at 9-over 709.

    The Trojans never quite found their groove during the first two rounds and finished at a combined 36-over 736 (368-368), producing identical 18-over rounds Monday.

    Paolucci (67-77) carded a 3-under first round that featured seven birdies to offset a couple double bogeys on par 4s. He fell off the pace a bit in round two.

    Hagestad, playing as USC's No. 6, tied Paolucci after rounds of 71 and 73. He had three birdies during his 1-over first round and four birdies during the second round.

    Senior Sam Smith is tied for 27th at 5-over 145 (71-74). He had a bogey on 14 and 17 pars the rest of the way during the first round and finished the second round with three birdies.

    Freshman Yi Keun Chang is tied for 52nd at 11-over 151 (79-72), junior Jeffrey Kang tied for 63rd at 15-over 155 (82-73) and junior Ramsey Sahyoun finished 66th at 16-over 156 (80-76).

    Action on Tuesday and Wednesday begins at 8 a.m. off No. 1 and No. 10 as well. Each team will feature six players with the top five scores counting each round.
