Hoey Ties For 3rd, USC Ties For 6th At Western Intercollegiate|
April 13, 2014
Freshman Rico Hoey posted his fourth straight top 5 with a tie for third while No. 21 USC took sixth to close the regular season at the 68th annual Western Intercollegiate at the Pasatiempo G.C. in Santa Cruz, Calif., on Sunday (April 13).
USC combined for a 22-over 1072 (355-355-362). Stanford finished first at 10-under 1040 with Washington second (1056), Cal third (1058), San Diego State fourth (1065), Oregon fifth (1067) and USC and Arizona State tied for sixth.
"Our regular season was a bit of a roller coaster," USC Coach Chris Zambri. "It seems the signs are there to have a spectacular team. We have enough guys who have played exceptional golf in a given week to play with any team in the country. The key for us will be whether or not it comes together in the same week for everyone. Rico has been a horse for us. We have leaned on him all year."
Hoey, whose streak of rounds in the 60s ended at seven, tied for third at 4-under 206 (68-68-70). He was three under with five birdies before dropping back to even for the round after 17. Hoey was second in his previous two events and fifth in the one before.
USC will play at the 2014 Pac-12 Championships April 25-27 at the Gallery G.C. in Tucson, Calif.
