Tucson, Ariz. - Freshman Taylor Wood shot 73 on Tuesday to finish tied for fifth and help lead the USC men's golf team to a tie for sixth at the National Invitational held at Tucson National Golf Course.

It's the best finish of Wood's young career, as he shot 217 (+1) to finish five strokes behind tourney champion Alejandro Canizares of Arizona State. Three other golfers tied for second at 214 and four others tied Woods for fifth place.

The Trojans shot 884 over 54 holes to tie with Tulsa for sixth place. Arizona was the team champion (870), followed by New Mexico (874), TCU (879), Texas (880) and Arizona State (883).

Also for USC, sophomore Nico Bollini tied for 28th (224), senior David Oh tied for 39th (226) and freshman Tyler Ley and junior Scott Oxandaboure tied for 43rd (228).

The Trojans are next in action at the Thunderbird/Savane Invitational in Phoenix, Ariz., on April 13-14.
