Tucson, Ariz. - The USC men's golf team shot 299 in the first round and are eighth after day one at the National Invitational held at Tucson National Golf Course.

USC is 10 strokes behind team leader Texas (289), with Arizona State second (293), TCU and Arizona third (294) and Tulsa fifth (296).

Freshman Taylor Wood led the way for the Trojans, shooting 73 to tie for 11th. Sophomore Nico Bollini shot 74 and is tied for 18th. Jason Hartwick of Texas leads the field after shooting a 67.

Also for the Trojans, senior David Oh and junior Scott Oxandaboure are tied for 34th after shooting 76, while freshman Tyler Ley is tied for 73rd after shooting 83.

The 54-hole event runs through Tuesday at Tucson National Golf Course, a par 72, 7,138-yard layout.
