The No. 14 USC men's golf team advanced into the winner's bracket second round of the Callaway Collegiate Match Play Championship with a 4-1 win over No. 17 TCU on Sunday (March 21) at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Course at Dove Mountain in Tucson, Ariz.

Second-round play was suspended due to darkness. USC is taking on top seed Stanford in the second round.

USC, seeded No. 8 in the 16-team bracket, was the first team to move to the second round after the Trojans made quick work of the No. 9 seeded Horned Frogs. Junior Matt Giles, sophomore Steve Lim and freshman Martin Trainer won the first three matches to clinch the win. Freshman T.J. Vogel earned USC's final point.

Giles won his match 4 and 3 over TCU's Daniel Jennevret, taking the lead on the second hole and never giving it up.

Lim similarly dominated his match against Travis Woolf. Lim won the first hole and went up by as many as four holes before claiming the 3 and 2 win.

Trainer led much of his match against Tom Hoge but found himself tied with three holes to play. Trainer, however, used a par and a birdie to win the next two holes and claim the 2 and 1 win.

Vogel trailed early against Johan de Beer, but never by more than a hole. He took over the lead on the 14th hole and went to the final tee with a one-hole lead. From there his par to de Beer's bogey clinched Vogel's win.

Freshman Stewart Hagestad played a solid match against Pontus Grad and held a one-hole lead through 10 holes. But he fell behind after the 12th hole and lost 2 and 1.

The second round will resume at 8 a.m. Monday (MT) with the third round to start approximately 9:30 a.m.
