Sophomore Matt Giles posted his sixth top 7 finish in as many events this season, tying for second-place to lead the No. 2 USC men's golf team in the final round of the 2009 Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship on Sunday (March 15) at the Southern Highlands G.C. in Las Vegas, Nev.

USC, still playing without injured two-time All-American Jamie Lovemark (broken finger), moved from a tie for eighth into fifth at 15-over 879 (295-294-290) after registering the fourth-best final round. UNLV made up a 12-stroke deficit to finish first at 9-under 855, edging Oklahoma State (856) by one shot.

Giles finish tied for a second at 6-under 210 (67-71-72), four back of first place. It was his highest finish this season and fifth in the top 4. Three-over after seven holes, Giles used an eagle on 9 and three birdies to help him get back to par for the rest of the round.

Senior Tom Glissmeyer tied for 11th at 2-over 218 (76-69-73), his third top 11 finish in five events. He finished with 17 birdies in 54 holes.

Sophomore Tim Sluiter tied for 29th at 8-over 224 (78-75-71), going 1-under with five birdies on the day, including a 2-under front 9.

Freshman Steve Lim tied for 48th at 11-over 227 (74-79-74) while senior Gavin Reid was 77th at 24-over 240 (79-85-76).
