Arizona State Wins Cleveland Golf Classic; USC Takes Fifth

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. - The No. 18 Arizona State Sun Devils placed three of its golfers in the top 10 on its way to winning the team title for the second year in a row as the 24th annual Cleveland Golf Classic held at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif., came to a close on Tuesday (Mar. 6).

Arizona State shot a two round total of 581, including 287 on Tuesday, to finish six strokes ahead of No. 9 TCU in second (587). Oregon State was third (592), followed by Washington (598) and three teams tied for fifth with a score of 600: tourney host No. 8 USC, No. 11 Minnesota and Fresno State.

David Yarnes of Oregon State, who shot the day's lowest score on Monday (70), finished with a solid 72 on Tuesday to win individual medalist honors by one stroke over runners up Matt Jones and Jin Park of Arizona State and Steve Conway of UCLA . Bret Guetz of TCU was fifth (145).

Seniors Alex Kuyumjian and Nick Jones led USC, as each shot 147 to finish tied for 9th. Also for the Trojans, freshman Roderick Staunton shot 148 and tied for 18th while competing as an individual, freshman Hunter Mahan shot 150 to tie for 27th and sophomore David Oh shot 156 to finish 58th.

USC competes next at the University of Texas' Morris Williams Intercollegiate held at the Austin Country Club in Austin, Tex., on Mar. 26-27.
