    Feb. 19, 2013

Led by junior Jeffrey Kang, whose 4-under 67 was good for a share of the individual lead, the USC men's golf team finished in second-place during the darkness-shortened first round of The Prestige at PGA West on Sunday in La Quinta, Calif.

USC finished at a combined 5-under 279, one stroke back of TCU, who, like the Trojans were one of eight of the 15 schools to complete a round. The remaining teams will finish the first round Monday morning before the second round begins.

Kang knocked in five birdies against one bogey during his strong round to lead the Trojans. His 67 tied a season best and was his third round in the 60s this year. Freshman teammate Yi Keun Chang is tied for sixth at 2-under 69 after a four-birdie first round.

Sophomore Anthony Paolucci, who has been USC's top finisher in the past two events - both top 10 results -- is tied for 12th at 1-under 70, his five-birdie round including three in a row at one point.

Senior Sam Smith is tied for 51st at 2-over 73 while junior Ramsey Sahyoun is tied for 85th at 12-over 83.

The second round is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday while the final round Wednesday will begin at 6:51 a.m.
