    Trojans 4th After The Prestige At PGA West First Round

    Freshman Sean Crocker carded a 3-under 69 while fellow frosh Jonah Texeira finished at 2-under 70 to lead the No. 4 USC men's golf team on the first day of The Prestige at PGA West, Monday (Feb. 16), on the PGA West Nicklaus Tournament Course in La Quinta, Calif.

    The Trojans, who have five top 3 finishes in six starts this season, combined for a 5-under 283, seven back of visiting Stirling University from Scotland, which leads at 12-under 276. Arizona State is second (279) with Oklahoma State third (280).

    Crocker carded his team-best 10th round in the 60s with his 69, good for a tie for eighth, three off the lead. He was 1-under on the front and 2-under on the back with five birdies on the day.

    Texiera tied for 15th with his 70. A birdie on 1 sent him to a 1-under front and, after a lone bogey on 10, he birdied 11 and 16 to finish the first round four back of first.

    Senior Eric Sugimoto is tied for 25th at 1-under 71, going 1-under on the front 9 and par on the back with three birdies. Junior Bobby Gojuangco and senior Paul Smith are tied for 38th at 1-over 73.

    Junior Andrew Levitt, seeing his first action since September, is tied for 58th at 3-over 75.
