Senior Steve Lim and junior Martin Trainer tied for third and led the No. 4 USC men's golf team to second place - its third top 2 finish in a row - on the final day of the 2012 San Diego Intercollegiate on Tuesday (Feb. 14), at the San Diego C.C. in Chula Vista, Calif.

The Trojans battled second-round leader Washington throughout the final round and finished at 13-over 877 (288-299-290), seven back of the winning Huskies (870). It was USC's second straight second-place finish in two spring events. USC also won its final fall event.

Trainer, the 2011 Pac-10 champion, registered his first top 10 finish this season at even 216 (70-77-69) and did so with some flair, using four consecutive birdies late in his round for a 3-under day. Lim, a winner in the fall, collected his third top 13 finish with a steady 216 (72-71-73).

Sophomore Jeffrey Kang, coming off his first collegiate win, remained hot with a tie for eighth at 3-over 219 (72-75-72) for his third straight top 8 finish. He had four birdies on the day and was even on the front and back 9.

Junior Sam Smith, playing individually, tied with Kang in eighth at 3-over 219 (73-70-76). In contention for the title at the start of the day, he was 4-over through four holes, but gathered himself and was even for the remainder of the round.

Freshman Anthony Paolucci tied for 40th at 13-over 229 (76-76-77) while sophomore Ramsey Sahyoun tied for 48th at 15-over 231 (74-81-76).
