    Freshman Martin Trainer fired a 5-under 67 while fellow frosh Stewart Hagestad was also under par Friday to pace the No. 16 USC men's golf team in the final round of the 20th annual Mauna Lani Invitational in Kohala Coast, on Friday (Feb. 5).

    USC finished ninth at 22-over 886 (293-301-292). Stanford won at 2-over 866 while Oregon and Washington tied for second at 5-over 869.

    Trainer tied for 21st at 4-over 220 (79-74-67). His final round featured six birdies against only one bogey.

    Hagestad, playing as an individual entry and not counting toward USC's team score, used a 2-under final round to tie for 29th at 5-over 221 (79-72-70). He had five birdies in the round.

    Junior Matt Giles and sophomore Steve Lim also were tied for 29th. Freshman Sam Smith tied for 63rd at 13-over 229 (74-81-74) while junior Bo DeHuff tied for 93rd at 20-over 236 (74-81-81).
