Jeffrey Kang, a 2014 senior, is a talented golfer looking to re-capture the form that made him a 2012 All-American ... In his final Fall season, Kang tied for eighth at the Kikkor Individual at 4-over 217 (72-70-75) and tied for 12th at the William H. Tucker at 5-over 221 (74-74-73).
Kang led all USC golfers with 40 rounds as a 2013 junior and finished fourth on the squad with a 74.18 stroke average, including four rounds in the 60s ... He turned in a pair of top 10 finishes, tying for seventh at The Prestige at PGA West at even 213 (67-76-70) and tying for eighth at the season-opening Pac-12 Preview at 5-under 211 (70-71-70). He also had two other top 15 finishes, including a tie for 12th at the Western Refining Collegiate at 6-under 207 (68-72-67).
Kang earned All-American honorable mention and All-Pac-12 second team honors as a 2012 sophomore, posting five top 10 finishes and one win while leading the Trojans with nine rounds in the 60s and a 72.00 stroke average, second best on the team ... He posted his first college victory after winning a one-hole playoff to nab the Amer Ari at Waikoloa Beach. He finished regulation at 11-under 205 (67-69-69) and used a par on the first playoff hole for the win. He took 10th at the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional at 4-under 209 (75-67-67). He was also sixth at the Gifford Collegiate and tied for eighth at the San Diego Intercollegiate at 3-over 219 (72-75-72) during a stretch of three top 8 finishes in a row. He tied for 10th at the U.S. Intercollegiate at 2-over 212 (70-70-72) and took 12th at the Pac-12 Championships at 3-under 285 (73-70-71-70).
Kang earned 2011 All-Pac-10 second-team honors as a freshman, posting a trio of top 5 finishes while being one of only two Trojans to play in every event of the season ... Kang finished third on the team in stroke average (73.14) and tied for a season-high with nine rounds in the 60s ... He notched a career-best third at the ASU Thunderbird, firing a 5-under 209 (71-69-68) for his best spring result. That finish followed up his strong showing at the Callaway Collegiate Match Play, where he went 4-0. He tied for fourth at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational at 5-over 215 (73-71-71) and tied for fifth at the Pac-10 Championships when he finished 1-under 279 (72-68-68-71) ... He also had four other top 30 finishes, including a tie for 20th during strokeplay at the 2011 NCAA Championships at 4-over 220 (72-73-75) and a tie for 17th at the NCAA San Diego Regional at 2-over 218 (66-76-76) ... Kang's off-season was highighted by a semifinal appearance at the 109th Western Amateur Championship. He fell to UCLA's Patrick Cantlay, 1-up, after weathering four rounds of the 156-person field to make it to the 16-player match play final ... He also tied for 12th at the Pacific Coast Amateur Championship at 3-under 285, was 13th at 6-under 282 at the 11th Annual Players Amateur and finished eighth at 13-under 275 in the Dogwood Invitational.
Kang, who prepped at Sunny Hills High in Fullerton, Calif., was the No. 1 ranked 2010 high school golfer in the country as a senior according to Golfweek magazine. Kang was a 2009 Rolex Junior All-American first teamer and a 2008 Rolex All-American second teamer. Kang, along with Trojan teammate T.J. Vogel, was among four players who represented the U.S. at the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup in June of 2009. Kang helped the U.S. to a second-place finish and was the top U.S. finisher. Earlier in 2009, he tied for eighth at the HP Junior and posted top five finishes in 2008 at the Polo Junior Classic, Junior PGA, HP Junior, Rolex Tournament of Champions and Dixie Amateur. He also went 3-0 at the Junior Ryder Cup, won the 2009 West Junior Open and led the West over the East at the 2009 Canon Cup with a win in the event's final match. Also in 2008 he led Sunny Hills High to the CIF-CGA State High School Golf Championship, earning medalist honors.
Kang was born on June 24, 1991 and he is a social sciences psychology major.
