KURT SCHUETTE ON JAMES CHOI: "James has had some success in high school and did well in the CIFs and regional finals. I've never met a young man who is more considerate and professional and more focused than James. I think he is going to be real solid player for us. He was under par through his first two and a half rounds at Tennessee. I was very encouraged by that. He's continuing to learn and get better. He will have a chance to prove himself this spring."
FALL RESULTS: Choi played in one tournament this past fall, shooting 223 at The Ridges Intercollegiate to tie for 48th ... His stroke average of 74.3 is sixth-best on the team.
James Choi in the Fall of 2001:
The Ridges 72-71-80--223 (48th tie)
HIGH SCHOOL: Choi was a CIF Regional medalist as a senior at Lakewood (Calif.) High ... Registered eight birdies on his way to shooting 67 at that Regional ... Was his team's MVP.
LINKS: James is an economics major at USC.
PERSONAL NOTES:
Biggest Sports Hero—"Tiger Woods, because he is a sincere guy with his goals clearly in mind."
Funniest Thing That Happened To Him On The Golf Course—"I got shot in the face by a timed high-pressure irrigation sprinkler."
Why I chose to attend USC—"It has the best of both worlds: golf and academics. The diversity in everything the school has to offer is phenomenal. How could I refuse?"
