Sept. 8 - Week 1 |
It was a long day today. Practice was long and very physical. I'm sore all over and I feel like I'm in training camp. I hope we can pick up Cal's stunts. That's going to be the key for us. Cal's stadium is a fun place to play. It's a really compact stadium with people on top of you. I just want to go out there and have fun again.
It was kind of scary moving to left guard in the Stanford game. I had never played on that side before. I didn't really think anything of it- they needed me there so that's where I went. It was a big adjustment. There's not as much space to work with in there. You have to be in a left-handed stance, which can be awkward if you're not used to it, and your feet are reversed. You have to reverse all the plays in your head. It's difficult sometimes, but I just went out there and reacted.
I'm a history major here. It's something I enjoy and it's something I can use to be a teacher, if that's what I decide to do. I'm fascinated by history. It's about things that really happened to real people, so I think that's cool. That old saying is true: we need to learn history so we don't make the same mistakes again.
I'm still not sure what I want to do when my playing days are over. I want to explore some things that I've always been interested. I've always wanted to join the armed forces. But I don't know, I might have a hard time taking orders. I've also thought about being a cop. Whatever the case, I think I'd like to move back to Washington where I lived before. I like the idea of living in a small town, but still being within close range of a major city.
After the season, I'm looking forward to spending more time with my girlfriend, working out more, and waterskiing. I love to waterski. I've had a lot of fun waterskiing on the Colorado River and in Arizona.
I don't really watch baseball much anymore, but I did hear about that guy who insulted Pete Rose. I thought he was out of line to do that. I bet he feels really stupid now after getting told off by Chad Curtis. The problem with the media sometimes is that they don't always know what they are talking about, yet they still put forth their opinions. It doesn't bother me, though, because I've always enjoyed talking to the media. It's a lot of fun. I rarely got interviewed in high school, maybe four times in all. When I got to USC, I started getting all kinds of requests, especially when I was named the starter in my first game. It was kind of weird to get used to all that attention, but I think it's cool, too. Everyone reacts to it differently, but it's part of today's sports world.
