USC Football Announces 2000 Player Awards

LOS ANGELES--Senior linebacker Zeke Moreno, whose 103 tackles led USC in 2000 for the second consecutive season, was named the Most Valuable Player of the Trojan football team at the annual awards banquet Sunday night (Dec. 17) at the Regal Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles.
Moreno also was USC's Player of the Game versus Notre Dame after posting a game-high 14 tackles.Sophomore quarterback Carson Palmer was named USC's Player of the Game versus UCLA after completing 26-of-37 passes forcareer highs with 350 yards and 4 TDs in the victory.
Senior tailback Petros Papadakis, who overcame a devastating foot injury in 1999 and returned to run for a team-best 8 touchdowns this season, was named USC's Most Inspirational Player.Defensive tackle Ennis Davis and offensive tackle Brent McCaffrey, a pair of 3-year starting seniors, were named USC's Defensive and Offensive Linemen of the Year, respectively.Junior linebacker Kori Dickerson was USC's Special Teams Player of the Year.
Senior quarterback Mike Van Raaphorst, who had a team-best 3.72 GPA while taking graduate business classes this past fall, received the John Wayne Memorial Scholarship and the Howard Jones/Football Alumni Club Academic Award.

John Wayne Memorial Scholarship (for the player with aspirations to continue in higher education): quarterback Mike Van Raaphorst
Bob Chandler Award (for the underclassman with outstanding athletic ability, academic achievement and character): fullback Charlie Landrigan
