Nelson Agholor Named Pac-12 Special Teams Player Of The Week|
Nov. 11, 2013
USC sophomore wide receiver Nelson Agholor was named Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week for his record-setting performance at California.
Agholor also was named to the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll and was the College Football Performance Awards National Punt Returner and National All-Purpose Performer of the Week.
At California, Agholor tied a Pac-12 game record with 2 touchdowns on punt returns (75 yards the first time USC touched the ball and then 93 yards to tie the second longest punt return in USC history), sharing the record with 3 others (including USC's Mike Garrett, who did so at Cal in 1965). Agholor's 168 punt return yards on the 2 runbacks broke Garrett's USC game mark by 6 yards. Agholor had 215 all-purpose yards (averaging 30.7 yards per touch) as he also caught 4 passes for 35 yards and had a 12-yard kickoff return.
Combined with CB Josh Shaw's 14-yard TD off a blocked punt, USC tied an NCAA game record with 3 scoring punt returns (held by several others).
On the year, Agholor has 36 receptions for 647 yards (18.0 avg) with 3 TDs, plus 10 punt returns for 288 yards (28.8 avg) with a national-best 2 TDs and 5 kickoff returns for 77 yards (15.4 avg).
Joining Agholor as Pac-12 Players of the Week are UCLA's Myles Jack (offense) and Shayne Skov (defense).
