No. 21 USC Football Hosts Arizona State For Homecoming|
Nov. 4, 2012
It's Homecoming at Troy as No. 21 USC welcomes Arizona State to the Coliseum. Both teams are looking to snap short 2012 losing skids. The Sun Devils have not won in Los Angeles since 1999. USC had an 11-game winning streak over ASU snapped last year in Tempe. The Trojans are still seeking win No. 800. It's the earliest USC kickoff time in the Coliseum since 1998. The game is approaching a sellout. USC dropped its second straight offensive shootout last weekend, this time to No. 2 Oregon.
QB Matt Barkley, the Pac-12 career recordholder for completions, pass TDs and total offense, needs just 15 passing yards for that league career standard. Soph WR Marqise Lee, a strong Biletnikoff Award candidate who is riding a pair of impressive receiving and all-purpose yardage outputs versus Arizona and Oregon, leads the Pac-12 in all-purpose yards (first nationally), receptions (second), receiving yards (second) and kickoff returns. He is joined in Troy's aerial show by WR Robert Woods, USC's career receptions leader. Other Trojan offensive standouts are Rimington Award nominee C Khaled Holmes and Penn State transfer TB Silas Redd.
USC's defense, which is in the national Top 8 in sacks and tackles for loss, features All-American S T.J. McDonald (the team's top tackler), CB Nickell Robey, LBs Dion Bailey and Hayes Pullard and sack specialist DE Morgan Breslin.
New Arizona State head coach Todd Graham brings in a Sun Devil team that is coming off a loss at Oregon State, upping its losing streak to 3 games. ASU's offense features dual-threat QB Taylor Kelly, who is in the national Top 20 in passing efficiency. The Sun Devils runners--DJ Foster, Cameron Marshall and Marion Grice--also figure often in the passing attack, along with such receivers as H-back Chris Coyle and WRs/returners Jamal Miles and Rashad Ross. The Arizona State defense is among the nation's best at stopping the pass and getting to the quarterback, thanks to the play of DT Will Sutton, the Pac-12 leader in sacks and tackles for loss, LBs Brandon Magee, Chris Young and Carl Bradford and FS Keelan Johnson.
The game will air live nationally on the Pac-12 Networks. USC's record-setting London Olympians will be saluted at halftime. The men's and women's swimming teams from USC and Arizona State will meet at Troy on Friday and Saturday. USC's basketball teams also open up their 2013 seasons over the weekend, the men on Friday and the women on Sunday.
