Smith and Johnson Named USC Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week|

LOS ANGELES – USC football wide receiver JuJu Smith and women’s soccer forward Katie Johnson were named USC Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct. 27 – Nov. 2, on Monday, Nov. 3.

In the second quarter, Smith showcased his keen ball concentration when Kessler lofted a strike just over the defender’s head, into Smith’s hands for a 22-yard touchdown. In the second half, Smith caught his third touchdown off a slant route as Kessler delivered a 7-yard strike to the receiver. With his performance, Smith became the third USC freshman to catch three touchdown passes in one game joining Mike Williams and Robert Woods. The Trojans return home to face California on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 6:00 pm PT.
USC CREDIT UNION WOMEN’S STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
On Sunday in Pullman, Wash., the Trojans faced a scoreless battle against the Cougars going late into the second half. In the 90th minute of the match, Johnson put the Trojans ahead. As the ball was played up in the box, the junior eluded defenders, and delivered a strike into the back of the net. This marked Johnson’s sixth goal of the season as the Trojans went on to win, 1-0, in dramatic fashion. The Trojans return home to face No. 1 UCLA on Friday, Nov. 7 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

The USC Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week are voted on by the student assistants and Sports Information Directors of the USC Sports Information Office. Nominations are compiled and distributed for voting by Alec Koondel.
