Hawthorne and Redd Named USC Student-Athletes of the Week

    LOS ANGELES: Meghan Hawthorne of the women's swimming and diving team and Silas Redd of the football team were named USC Student-Athletes of the Week today (Oct. 15) for the week of October 8-14.

    Women's Swimming: Junior Meghan Hawthorne won two events on Saturday (Oct. 13) en route to helping the Women of Troy defeat visiting Utah, 165-88, in a Pac-12 dual meet. Hawthorne won the 200 yard free with a time of 1:48.88 as the Trojans finished one-two in the event. She then returned to capture first in the 400 yard IM with a time of 4:13.60. Hawthorne also finished second in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:00.46.

    Football: Junior running back Silas Redd led USC with 155 yards rushing and one touchdown as the No. 11 Trojans defeated Washington, 24-14, on Saturday (Oct 13). Redd's touchdown came at the 10:29 mark in the first quarter, an 11-yard run to put the Trojans up, 10-0. His 155-yard game was his second-highest total of the season; just three yards shy of his 158-yard mark versus California. The junior's 26 carries marked a season high for the Penn State transfer.
