Johnson, Breslin and Genidounias Named Student-Athletes of the Week

    Samantha Johnson of the women's soccer team, Morgan Breslin of the football team and Kostas Genidounias of the men's water polo team were named USC Student-Athletes of the Week today (Sept. 24) for the Week of September 17-23.

    Women's Soccer: Senior forward Samantha Johnson scored a golden goal for the Women of Troy with just 11 seconds left in the first overtime period to life USC to a 1-0 win against Washington. The goal wrapped up the first shutout of the year for the Trojans and helped USC win its Pac-12 opener. Johnson leads the team with four goals, this year, and has 14 in her career; the 11th most in program history.

    Football: Junior defensive end Morgan Breslin had three sacks and six total tackles in a 27-9 win over California. Breslin reached Bear QB Zach Maynard three times to for a total of 20 loss yards and had 4.5 tackles for a loss of 26 yards. On the season, Breslin has 19 total tackles (9.5 for a loss of 53 yards) and leads the team with five sacks for 28 yards.

    Men's Water Polo: Sophomore driver Kostas Genidounias scored two goals to pull USC into a 6-6 tie with No. 4 California and set up a heroic finish for the Trojans who won, 7-6, in their MPSF opener. Genidounias also earned assists on a pair of USC goals and had four steals including a key takeaway during a Cal 6-on-5 in the fourth period. He now has 14 goals, this season, as USC moved to 9-0 and head coach Jovan Vavic earned his 400th career men's water polo victory at USC.
