Quarterback Cody Kessler threw 3 touchdown passes, including a pair to wide receiver Darreus Rogers, to highlight USC's second intrasquad football scrimmage of 2013 fall practice on Friday (Aug. 16) on a hot afternoon in the Coliseum.

Kessler was 20-of-28 for 231 yards while throwing mainly against the second team defense. Quarterback Max Wittek was 2-of-7 for 15 yards, facing mostly the first string defense. Freshman quarterback Max Browne hit both of his passes for 42 yards, including a 28-yard touchdown to freshman walk-on wide receiver Aaron Minor.

Overall, Rogers had 9 catches for 106 yards, with TD grabs of 7 yards and then a 3-yarder in which he outjumped and outmuscled the defensive back.

Kessler's other scoring toss was a short pass over the middle to tailback Javorius Allen, who scampered 30 yards into the end zone.

Wideout De'Von Flournoy added 5 catches for 49 yards.

Safety Gerald Bowman had a team-best 6 tackles, with a sack. Safety Su'a Cravens and outside linebacker Quinton Powell, both freshmen, each had 5 tackles, with Cravens getting a pair of sacks.

There were just 3 penalties and no turnovers in the 68-play scrimmage.

The Trojans open their 2013 season at Hawaii on Aug. 29 before returning to the Coliseum for their home and Pac-12 opener against Washington State on Sept. 7.
