Tailback Dillon Baxter caught a touchdown and ran for another, while receivers Markeith Ambles and David Ausberry had scoring receptions and tailback Marc Tyler had a rushing TD to highlight the USC football team's 101-play intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday (Aug. 14) at USC.

Baxter's scores (an 11-yard pass from quarterback Matt Barkley and a 2-yard run) finished the day's scoring. Ambles, who had 5 receptions for 83 yards overall, opened the scoring with a 15-yard grab from quarterback Mitch Mustain. Ausberry's touchdown catch was on an 8-yard pass from Mustain. Tyler, who ran for 76 yards on 11 carries overall, had a 5-yard TD run.

Placekicker Joe Houston hit both of his field goal attempts (32 and 43 yards).

Barkley was 9-of-13 for 116 yards on the day, while Mustain was 12-of-19 for 141 yards.

Tailback Allen Bradford had 62 yards on 9 carries and tailback Curtis McNeal added 52 yards on 7 rushes.

Cornerback Demetrius Wright had 11 tackles to top the defense. Linebackers Devon Kennard, Shane Horton and Will Andrew and safety Cody Romness added 4 stops apiece. Defensive end Armond Armstead had 2 tackles for losses.

"I was pleased with the run game today," said new USC head coach Lane Kiffin. "That was good to see. I also thought the quarterbacks played well and Ambles had a very good day."

Because 14 scholarship players were held out of the scrimmage because of nagging injuries, Kiffin had the defense not finish its tackles in the second half to prevent injuries.

The Trojans open their 2010 season at Hawaii on Sept. 2.
