COLUMBIA: He caught 3 passes for 32 yards (10.7 avg) while appearing in 5 games as a first-year freshman tight end at Columbia in 2013.
HIGH SCHOOL: He was a 2-time (2011-12) All-District tight end as a junior and senior at Bishop Heeland High in Sioux City (Ia.), where he also earned 2012 All-State second team honors as a senior. He had 43 receptions for 756 yards (17.6 avg) with 10 TDs in 2012 after getting 21 catches for 227 yards (10.8 avg) in 2011. He also played basketball and baseball there.
PERSONAL: He was born in Dublin, Ireland. He is a business administration major at USC with a B+ average (3.44 GPA). His father, Bob, was an All-Ivy League swimmer at Dartmouth. His grandfather, the late Dr. Robert Spears, was a faculty member and administrator at the USC School of Medicine for 40 years.
