2014: Burks will battle for playing time at outside linebacker as a junior in 2014.
2013: Burks served as a backup outside linebacker and played on special teams as a sophomore in 2013. Overall in 2013 while appearing in 12 games (all but Washington State and Utah State), he had 3 tackles, including a 7-yard sack. He had a tackle at Oregon State and 2 tackles at California, with the sack.
2012: Burks was a reserve defensive end, fullback and special teams performer as a redshirt freshman in 2012. He saw brief action in 4 games in 2012 (Hawaii and Syracuse on special teams, Colorado and Arizona State at defensive end), but he did not make a tackle or carry the ball.
2011: Burks redshirted as a freshman defensive end and fullback in 2011, his first year at USC, after having pre-season knee surgery.
HIGH SCHOOL: His 2010 honors included Super Prep All-Farwest, Prep Star All-West, Tacoma News Tribune Western 100, Orange County Register All-Orange County second team and All-Sunset League Defensive Line MVP as a senior defensive end at Edison High in Huntington Beach (Calif.). He had 86 tackles, including 7.5 sacks, plus 3 deflections, 3 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries in 2010.
As a junior in 2009, he made Max Preps Junior All-American second team, All-CIF Pac-5 Division, Orange County Register All-Orange County first team and All-Sunset League Defensive Line MVP while getting 52 tackles and 14 sacks. Edison was a 2009 Pac-5 Division finalist.
PERSONAL: He is a political science major at USC with a B average (3.15 GPA). He made the 2013 Pac-12 All-Academic first team and 2012 Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention. Some of his artwork was displayed at the 2012 "Artletics" on-campus exhibit that featured the works of USC student-athletes.
