Lee Guttero, USC's First Two-Time Basketball All-American, Passes Away
Sept. 22, 2004 Lee Guttero, who was USC's first two-time basketball All-American, passed away on Aug. 29 in Torrance due to kidney failure. He was 92. A 6-2 center, Guttero helped USC to three straight conference titles from 1933-1935, while leading the team in scoring each season. He was named All-American in both 1934 and 1935, while earning all-conference honors from 1933-1935. He was the MVP of the 1935 squad which posted a 20-6 record. He set a Trojan record that season when he scored 34.6% of his team's points. During his tenure, Troy went 54-19. In 2002, Guttero was named to the USC Hall of Fame, part of a class that included Sam Cunningham and Lenny Krayzelburg.
